2006 Yamaha Roadliner Midnight

I bought this bike used in Pompano Beach, FL during a "tropical storm." I flew in and rode it back to Mississippi through unpleasant pouring rain up the east Florida coast.

I rode the 2005 Honda VTX1800 for many years and used it to travel on. I sold it and bought the 2003 Harley-Davidson VROD to replace the Honda. The VROD was fun but it was not a good state to state traveling bike. So I sold the VROD and decided to get a Yamaha to compliment Lorna's Warrior.

I like the Roadliner, it has a nice sized 1900cc ( 113 cubic inch ) engine. It shares the same design as the Warrior. Fuel injection with O2 sensors. I couldn't stand the huge and quiet stock exhaust so I replaced it with a single muffler from a Harley Sportster that I had laying around. Now it has a nice medium sound and is about twenty pounds lighter.

Points on interest are the EXUP valve on the stock exhaust header. You can see the cables going to it near where the muffle connects with the header. The EXUP valve provides backpressure to the exhaust and opens as the RPMs increase. Also worth noting is the really nice "antique" style dash on the tank. The dash has a speedometer, fuel gauge, and tachometer.

Pros:

Large displacement, fuel injected, oil cooled engine

Belt drive

Really cool fluid reservoirs, hidden keyhole on headlight, factory internal handlebar wiring

Cons:

Not so high redline ( 5000 RPM )

Ignition built onto headlight so custom headlights could be a headache

Not the most comfortable seat

Weird EXUP valve in facotry exhaust header makes aftermarket exhausts almost functionless
